We offer a position as Principal Investigator (temporary with a view to permanent), to lead your innovative, technology-focused research line in computational immunology, while advancing collaborative, data-driven projects in the department.

Dit ga je doen

We are looking for a senior Computational Immunologist who will develop and implement innovative computational methods for the analysis of high dimensional immunological data. This position offers a unique opportunity to establish and lead your own technology-focused research line, while also being well-integrated into a broader range of ongoing research lines within the Center for Translational Immunology (CTI). Your role will be pivotal in expanding the department's computational capacity and advancing large-scale, data-driven research projects, in a collaborative environment that fosters team science. In addition, you will contribute to the education and mentorship of students and researchers, by teaching them cutting-edge computational immunology techniques, both on the work floor and in courses for Master’s students.

Hier ga je werken

The position is within the Computational Immunology Core (CIC) of the Center for Translational Immunology (CTI) at UMC Utrecht. The CTI concentrates top expertise in immunology in one department and conducts all research on immunological diseases at the UMC Utrecht. The CTI harbors over 200 researchers in 16 research groups supported by 6 core facilities, including the CIC. The CIC brings together all researchers performing computational work at the CTI, and provides a stimulating environment that fosters team science for fundamental, translational and clinical immunology. Our mission is to impact people’s lives by understanding the basis of life-long immune health, classifying and monitoring inflammatory diseases and identifying their treatable traits. We closely link education, research, diagnostics and care, and train PhD students and professionals to obtain a broad career perspective.

The CTI is part of the strategic research theme “Infection and Immunity” of UMC Utrecht. UMC Utrecht is one of the largest medical centers in The Netherlands and is uniquely situated at the Utrecht Science Park with ample opportunities for local collaborations with for example the Hubrecht Institute, Utrecht University, the national pediatric oncology hospital (Princess Maxima Centre) and various biotech companies. Our computational research is closely linked to the 5 Health AI labs at UMC Utrecht and to the campus-wide Utrecht Bioinformatics Center.

Dit neem je mee

Candidates should have either i) a PhD in bioinformatics/biostatistics or a related field, in which case experience within the field of immunology is highly desirable, or ii) a PhD within the field of immunology, with demonstrable, strong experience in computational biology. Candidates should have a strong track record in relation to their career stage, based on, for example, high-quality research output and experience in supervision. The candidate should demonstrate independence, a clear drive for innovation and collaboration, strong communication skills, and an eagerness to learn new techniques. We especially value candidates who can work effectively across diverse collaborations. Ideally, the candidate has experience with a broad array of methods to analyse high-dimensional data, such as flow-cytometry, imaging and/or sequencing data.

How to apply

Candidates should send a motivation letter and CV, including at least two references and an indication of their availability for this job before September 8, 2025. Selected candidates will be invited for an online interview, which may be followed by an interview in person in Utrecht. We would like the candidate to start as soon as possible. Inquiries about the position can be addressed to Prof. Dr. José Borghans.
